Improving the self-management offering with digital solutions

Through our collaboration with the Oslo University Hospital, we can offer evidence based self-management apps for stress, chronic pain, and weight stabilization. This collaboration has also provided us with the knowledge and expertise for developing new solutions based on R&D work in the healthcare sector.

  • Evidence based self-management apps for stress, chronic pain and weight stabilization.
  • Solutions developed by the Department of Digital Health Research at Oslo University Hospital.
  • Portal for following up users giving them the motivational boost needed.
  • Agilely development of new solutions.

Digital solutions - how to succeed?

In an increasingly digitalized world, we are seeing a rapid development of self-management apps, often by research groups and aimed at a wide range of challenges for users. We at dHealth have been working with self-management apps for a few years and have gradually built up solid knowledge and experience about what is required for digital solutions to actually help. For example, sick leave will not decrease just by offering a digital solution to individual employees, but if it is systematized, with proper follow-up and motivating measures, users will gain much more benefit from the digital solutions.

Evidence-based solutions

Our self-management apps are developed by the Department of Digital Health Research at Oslo University Hospital. The solutions are based on knowledge and evidence, and have been developed with close user involvement by a multidisciplinary team of researchers, healthcare professionals, and psychologists. The solutions have undergone RCT studies (randomized controlled trials) that show they have significant results in key areas such as stress, anxiety, and depression.

Motivation for self-management

It can be difficult to find the motivation to do tasks that are not inherently enjoyable or that one is not genuinely interested in. This is also true for self-management, where you on your own accord should practice and read about managing your stress, pain or lifestyle changes. One can imagine how easy it is to forget to do the exercises prescribed by the chiropractor. This is why we have developed a portal where professionals in municipal services or companies can invite users to the apps and follow up their progress in the apps (given their consent). Through this portal you are able to send motivational messages to the user such that they feel seen in their efforts to improve their own life situation. Additional motivation is also built through subtle use of gamification.

Bridge the gap

Self-management apps are often developed by research groups where the funding ends once the study is complete. The projects rarely have resources allocated for the difficult job of bringing the results and the apps to the general consumers. This job is usually placed on the next link, whether it is companies for their employees or the municipal services. To help bridge the gap, we have developed a user-friendly portal for inviting users to the apps and following them up. We offer a fair pricing model where you only pay for active user-months, meaning you are only billed for the actual use and not a fixed number of licenses. In the portal you can add additional apps and distribute them to the users without any additional setup costs. This creates a flexible and cost-effective solution where cost follows usage - no more, no less!
